Dear Bergsonne Friends,
Dear Bergsonne Friends,
there are moments that burn so deeply into your memory that weeks later you still feel that indescribable goosebump sensation. One of these moments begins at precisely 4:30 AM right outside our front door.
While the valley below us is still fast asleep and the world around the sun plateau rests in the gentle twilight, we lace up our hiking boots. The air is cool, clear, and smells of meadows and forest. In our backpacks? A thermos, some provisions, and – for that magical summit moment – a well-chilled bottle of sparkling wine.
Our goal for the morning: The summit of Imberger Horn (1,656 m).
The Ascent: Step by Step Towards the Light
With the soft crunch of pebbles under our soles, we start directly from the Bergsonne Allgäu. No driving, no searching for parking – that is the priceless freedom of our location.
The path first leads us gently uphill over the gentle slopes of the Imberger Horn, past sleepy alpine pastures. Gradually, darkness gives way to a deep dark blue. Birds begin their first morning concert. The ascent becomes steeper, the pulse quickens, and breathing is steady – exactly the right pace to completely clear your head.
The higher we climb, the brighter shades of pink and orange appear behind the horizon of the Allgäu and Tannheim Alps. The feeling of literally watching the day grow makes every single meter of altitude effortless.
6:30 AM at the Summit Cross: The Cork Pops Above the Clouds
When you finally climb the last meters to the summit cross of the Imberger Horn and let your gaze sweep freely over the entire Illertal, Sonthofen, and the majestic peaks all around, it becomes completely silent for a moment.
And then the first dazzling golden sunbeam pushes its way over the mountain ridges.
Now the moment has come: The sparkling wine cork pops, glasses clink softly in the morning chill, and we toast. A sparkling wine breakfast at the summit cross at sunrise – refined with the unobstructed 360-degree panorama of the Oberallgäu. Pure freedom.
The Descent & the Grand Finale: The Mountain Morning Breakfast
The way back feels almost like floating. Warmed by the morning sun, we hike relaxed downhill back to Imberg.
Around 9:00 AM, we arrive back at the Bergsonne – with rosy cheeks, happy eyes, and that deep feeling of fulfillment. And the best part? The second highlight of the morning is already waiting for us: Our regional Mountain Morning Breakfast.
Now the fragrant coffee, the fresh Allgäu wood-fired bread, the regional mountain cheese, and the egg dishes taste twice as good.
